Offshore Logistics: Vessels & Foundations, 17th -18th June 2020

Meet the Speaker: Kate Harvey

Kate Harvey is General Manager at G+, which is committed to promoting and maintaining the highest possible standards of health and safety throughout the life cycle of offshore wind farms. We interviewed her ahead of the Offshore Logistics: Vessels and Foundations event, where she will be speaking on how organisations should be protecting their workforce.

One of the big themes of this year’s event is bigger and more powerful turbines, why do you think this is such a challenge for the industry?

The industry, along with WTG sizes, has grown more than most can imagine. The challenge is anticipating what size WTGs will grow to and at what rate. The success of the industry relies on this for planning consents to be sufficiently inclusive, foundation design to be optimized and for vessel requirements to be met.

What do you think are the top 3 challenges facing the wind power industry, and in particular Offshore Logistics at the moment?

With the growth mentioned above, it is even more crucial that health and safety remains as everyone’s core focus.

Why is the topic that you are speaking on important to you and the industry?

Without an industry where health and safety are at the top of everyone’s agenda we will fail to continue. We need to ensure that we provide the workforce with a safe place of work.

What other session on the agenda are you looking forward to attending and why?

I’m interested to hear from Edgare Kerkwijk, Managing Director, Asia Green Capital, and Board Member, Asia Wind Energy Association. The G+ has been becoming more global over the past few years and has recently established a G+ Focal Group in the APAC region. It will be interesting to hear more from Edgare.
